Everyone’s saying Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth aren’t going to re-up with Marvel because they’re too old to keep playing the roles. That Chadwick Boseman and Tom Holland are the young guns to build the next phase around. While it’s true that Evans has already said he’s done after Avengers 4, and it’s been widely speculated that Downey, Pratt, and Ruffalo might be done as well, I figured some might get a kick out of this.
The Ages of the Current...
So here’s how I would set up the second event. First of all, it’s not gonna take another ten years to build to the next major conflict. All the work Marvel’s put in on this universe will allow them to move quickly from now on. Let’s say the next phase is six years. 2-3 solo films a year. We'd still get 12-15 films before the main event. Keep in mind that Marvel should also have ALL of the X-Men, The Fantastic Four, and Silver Surfer for the next phase. I’m calling Galactus as the major villain in the second event, so it’ll be interesting to see how many films feature Silver Surfer as a bad guy.
If Downey and Evans really are done, I see Downey becoming the voice of the computer within the iron man suit. As in the comics, he'll upload himself before dying. Then I’d put Black Panther’s sister Shuri in the suit. Letitia Wright is only 24. She can do a decade-plus in the iron.
Iron Heart +
Fury will give the shield to Bucky. At 35, Stan has plenty of tread left on his tires if he wants to stay on for another phase. He was nowhere near the rank of Captain as a soldier, so idk if he’d keep that title. Let’s say he doesn’t.
Ruffalo can easily continue to play Banner. All of his action is CG anyway. Personally, I think they’re going to bring in She-Hulk for the next phase.
If Scarlett Johansson and Elizabeth Olsen aren’t sick of their characters yet. Scarlett’s been greenlit for a solo film so it seems she’s not. Both are young enough for another phase.
Iron Heart / US Agent / She-Hulk / Black Window / Scarlett Witch +
I’ve heard rumors that Thor’s new personality, established in Ragnarok and continued in the Infinity War, has made him love the character again. He can easily stay on through another phase at only 34 years old.
Iron Heart / US Agent / She-Hulk / Black Window / Scarlett Witch / Thor +
At 21 and 28, Tom Holland’s Spidey and Larson’s Captain Marvel are the obvious ones. Especially, Spidey. It’s Holland’s role to play until he’s sick of it or Sony messes it up.
Iron Heart / US Agent / She-Hulk / Black Window / Scarlett Witch / Thor / Spider-Man / Captain Marvel +
Boseman’s Black Panther and Mackey’s Falcon are the difficult ones. Marvel will keep wanting Boseman back as long as Black Panther’s breaking records, BUT as of right now, he’ll be 42 before the second Black Panther comes out. It’s not even listed on his IMDB slate yet. Marvel’s gonna want to fast track it obviously, but Director Ryan Coogler has to finish Creed II, and has another film in the works. He’ll work his other film around whatever Marvel wants though. Even if everything falls into place, we’re talking at least 2020 for the next BP movie. Depending on its release date Boseman could be 43. Does he want to play BP through another phase? He’ll be almost 50 with the 6-year plan I’ve laid out. They could always give it to Shuri, and shoot my Iron Heart theory to Hell.
Ditto for Mackey’s Falcon. He’s (Falcon) not big enough to carry his own movie, so he’ll have to decide if playing Bucky’s partner, or a bit character in the team films are worth six more years of his career. He fought pretty hard for the role, so maybe he’s in for the long haul.
Iron Heart / US Agent / She-Hulk / Black Window / Scarlett Witch / Thor / Spider-Man / Captain Marvel / Black Panther? / Falcon?
I believe Cumberbatch is done. He may have one more Dr. Strange movie in him, but not another whole phase.
I doubt Evangeline Lilly will give up the role of Wasp, so count her in.
Iron Heart / US Agent / She-Hulk / Black Window / Scarlett Witch / Thor / Spider-Man / Captain Marvel / Wasp / Black Panther? / Falcon?
Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man is mostly all CG when it comes to the action, but I still don’t see him playing Ant-Man for another six years. I think they let this character go. Paul Bettany is mostly make-up and CG so technically Vision can stick around. Cheadle already looked really old in Infinity War. I love the actor, but any soldier can wear the armor.
I only see solo films making sense for Thor, Spider-Man, and Black Panther (if Boseman sticks around)
Bucky’s movies will continue to be ensemble pieces like Cap’s last two were, so I see them saying screw it, and just doing Avenger movies with the smaller names as well. Most of the cast wouldn’t be expensive, and by now they’re all willing to take their pay off back-end percentages. If not - they’re stupid.
Before they face Galactus, we WILL see a Fantastic Four vs X-Men or an X-Men vs Avengers. Either one would make a Billion so it’s gonna happen. Maybe both.
